RN to BS in Nursing - SELU

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
The Southeastern Louisiana University School of Nursing is offering this program completely online for qualified students, primarily for adult learners. The interactive program includes a learning facilitator who works directly with students to assist them in completing the program.  The curriculum is comprised of general education courses and professional nursing courses. The nursing component consists of 18 hours of required nursing courses and 12 hours of nursing elective courses. This accelerated pace provides students the opportunity to take more courses in each session and to complete the program in three semesters.

EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nurses comprise the largest sector of healthcare professionals, holding 2.6 million jobs in 2008. Employment of registered nurses is expected to grow by 22 percent from 2008 to 2018, much faster than the average for all occupations. Growth will be driven by technological advances in patient care, which permit a greater number of health problems to be treated, and by an increasing emphasis on preventive care. In addition, the number of older people, in need of nursing care is projected to grow rapidly.  RNs who achieve a BS in Nursing are often recognized for unique leadership skills and integral team members.  Additionally, administrative positions, research, consulting, and teaching often require a BS or higher degree.
