RN to BS in Nursing - SELU

PROGRAM ATTRIBUTES

This program is aimed largely for adult learners. The Southeastern Louisiana University School of Nursing is offering this program completely online for qualified students. The interactive program includes a learning facilitator who words directly with students to assist them in completing the program.

The nursing component consists of 18 hours of required nursing courses and 12 hours of nursing elective courses. This accelerate pace provides students the opportunity to take more courses in each sessions and to complete the program in three semesters.

EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOK
According to the US Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, registered nurses comprise the largest sector of healthcare, holding 2.6 million jobs in 2008. Employed in a wide variety of agencies, BS prepared RNs are often recognized for unique leadership skills and potential for being an integral team member. Additionally, administrative positions, research, consulting, and teaching often require a bachelor's or higher degree.

Employment of registered nurses is expected to grow by 22 percent from 2008 to 2018, much faster than the average for all occupations. Growth will be driven by technological advances in patient care, which permit a greater number of health problems to be treated, and by an increasing emphasis on preventive care. In addition, the number of older people, who are much more likely than younger people to need nursing care, is projected to grow rapidly.
