Tech is family." That's how one graduate described the Louisiana Tech experience. With its reputation for offering a private-college atmosphere at a public-university price, Tech is one place where students are always remembered, from the faculty who take personal pride in student achievements to the bricks in the alumni walkway that bear graduates' names. Founded in 1894, this selective admissions university offers more than 80 undergraduate majors and a wide variety of graduate degrees from within its 31 masters' and 10 doctoral programs. Tech has 1,592 freshmen and a total of 10,607 students, all thriving in a safe and supportive environment where collaborative research opportunities enhance learning alongside extracurricular and NCAA Division I athletic programs that enrich student life. Five colleges offer undergraduate studies while students who opt to pursue postgraduate studies have access to faculty and facilities on the cutting edge of bioinformatics, nanotechnology and information technology as well as in the area of intellectual, social and economic development. The pedestrian-friendly campus revolves around the oaks-shaded Quad and its gracious gardens, beckoning benches and splashing Lady of the Mist fountain. Other highlights include the 16-story Wyly Tower of Learning, the cutting-edge Institute for Micromanufacturing, the innovative Center for Entrepreneurship and Information Technology, and the imposing, round Thomas Assembly Center. The 255-acre campus is also home to Tolliver Hall with its popular Java Cyber Cafe'; an Olympic-size, T-shaped swimming pool; two spaces dedicated to the performing arts; the Lambright Sports Center; a nine-hole university golf course; and University Park, an apartment-style community with a signature ballpark view. The university, which sits on the edge of historic Ruston (population: 22,000), enjoys close ties with its friendly neighbor. Many of Tech's students are actively engaged in cooperative projects with Ruston businesses and serve in local civic organizations. Louisiana Tech University President Dr. Dan Reneau: "This collaborative degree provides students with a unique opportunity to capitalize on the strengths and synergies of the UL System's member institutions. Louisiana Tech looks forward to serving these students and producing graduates who will effectively lead organizations throughout our state and nation."
